stop the world

The original line came straight from Greece and while Alecto wasn't born there, her father surely was. It used to be a strong, rich line with many other Greek names to following along side of it. Much to the her father's disappointment, it became slightly diluted by lesser names. While still pure were not exactly "Carrow material". He moved to the U.K in search of a wife as his own blood was very connected and bordered on near incest, ironically he ended up marrying someone he was related to anyways out of fear.

The Carrow family started with just Achilles and his wife, although a first cousin, Rosemarie. The two of them had their first child, Amycus, who was almost three years apart from Alecto. The pregnancies were hard on the family and upon Alecto's birth, Rosemarie died of complications shortly after. Amycus and Achilles took it incredibly hard and found fault with the youngest daughter and Achilles wanted nothing to do with her. He was upset that he'd lost his wife and would have to do the child-watching on his own.

Amycus was often forced to take care of his sister, changing her diapers and feeding her. When he needed help, he owled one of his Aunts or Uncles(Achilles is one of seven siblings.) to come by and show him what to do. Amycus was frequently annoyed with Alecto and often refused to take care of her when she got older. He was always angry and this lead to her getting pushed around by her father and brother because there was nobody to pay attention to her. Eventually they offered cruel treatment when she kept asking for attention, even going as far as putting tape over her mouth. Her childhood was spent being told that she needed to "man-up" and it was even to the point to where she wore men's clothing.

While they were often mean and sometimes cruel, Alecto never spoke a word of it in public. She is in denial of how she's being treated because she knows no better.

Achilles was ashamed of himself for ignoring her, but looking at her reminded him of Rosemarie. Achilles ordered Amycus to yell at her to be more aggressive and then told not to be, for a child this was very confusing. Her personality is a little explosive, not by temper but by unpredictability. She might say something mean or she might take it, if she's encouraged then she'd keep it up and when she's not, she is silent. Alecto's behaviour made her socially awkward and she often fell behind when it came to trying to be friends with others.

When it came time for Amycus to leave for school, she wanted to go as well because she felt left out. During the year that Amycus was gone for school, she stole her fathers books and forced herself to reading them as difficult as they might have been. While this seemed very strange for a child to do, she was adamant on showing that she was just as smart as he was.

Alecto is a bunch of insecurities, complexities of a fake self that she tries to hide for the duration of time. She's been forced to follow the path that her brother has paved her entire life and she acted only out of fear of what might happen should she go against the grind too much. In school, she was known as a bully in her classes and house until Amycus left in her third year and while this doesn't seem like a big deal the majority of people had probably already made an opinion about her. She would never do things on her own unless Amycus was there, he brings out her bad behavior and if his friends are there, she tends to also act up to throw them off so they don't tell him. Sadly, this causes alot of white lies on her part.

She always hides how she is really feeling, Alecto is a little hardened to the world around her and feels that she doesn't need to tell everyone how she feels. Her words are spoke in a half-believable tone that sounds like bored like she doesn't really want to answer. She worries constantly that someone will figure her out and expose her for what she really is; a coward. Alecto is all bark and no bite, she hesitates even to hurt someone's feeling unless it's absolutely necessary. She has some anxiety from worrying so much, it causes her to leap to conclusions based on what she thinks in her mind instead of just asking. Strangely enough, she doesn't like to lie for people and will not do it for anyone else besides Amycus. She prefers to stay honest when it's really important and when it concerns others well-being, when it's herself, she likes to pretend she's fine or that nothing is wrong.

She also has the uncanny ability to be honest to those that she really likes and I don't mean just a personal friend, she really has to like a person to be completely honest with them, otherwise she'll just lie so they don't worry about her. She believes that she's below average and nothing to look at, she knows that Amycus' friends only find her attractive because she's pureblooded and hasn't bothered to even get deep with any of them. Being fawned at, stared at or investigated makes her really uneasy and she prefers no company to the company of people who seem to just want to get closer to Amycus. She's far too clever not to see that, much more clever than her brother.

Her whole life was spent in secret trying to best him, reading his books over summer to make better grades in the courses he took before hand. She hopes to get twice as many NEWTS as he did. One can tell that she sacrificed her social life to do this, being reclusive and relying on Amycus' ties to any friends he had for a social life and thus she doesn't have many people who are her friends. Alecto's friendliness is very peculiar and works off of how smart you are, how trustworthy you are and how much you mean to her. Once one of those are taken away, she's less likely to ever open back up.

As independent as she sounds, Alecto is easily manipulated into doing things that she wouldn't usually do by methods of confrontation and being too overly pushy. While she may not be 100% independent, she seems more dependent than most people do and their choices can easily sway hers. While this doesn't mean EVERY choice, she can be coaxed into going with something by someone getting in her face or trapping her. One thing she hates more than anything is to be trapped, she'll go with almost anything to get out.

The one thing that is her biggest set back is how she feels when she's ignored. Her father has never spoken to her, no matter how good she does or what she does. She cannot stand people who turn their backs to her, walk away from her or ignore her completely. Alecto becomes a complete mess and ends up having a fit over it, these fits are often to those she believes are truly close friends of hers. She has been known to act up when she's alone with a person, but never in public because she doesn't want to embarrass herself. It fuels her temper so badly that she has been known to cry in her fits of anger because she can't help it, even though she tries to hide it.
